Perhaps surprisingly, both teams enter this match knowing exactly how they will fare after Friday night defeats to Italy and Hungary, respectively.

The hosts, England, have already been demoted to League B since they haven’t won in any of their past five games, and Germany can no longer go to the semifinal round because of their unexpected loss to Hungary.

Even though it is essentially a “dead rubber,” the intense rivalry between the two countries should guarantee a close match on Monday.

Germany’s Team News

Following Germany’s disheartening loss to Hungary on Friday, Head Coach Flick has lot to ponder, much like his English counterpart.

The most likely candidates to start for Flick in the 1:0 defeat at Leipzig are Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala, who both served as substitutes.

England’s Team News

It is unknown if Head Coach Southgate would be tempted to alter either his starting formation or starting XI for the final game before England departs for Qatar.

Lacking a victory in their last five games, England’s team is undoubtedly lacking in confidence, and players like Jack Grealish, Ivan Toney, and Mason Mount may be given opportunities to shine before England’s World Cup opener against Iran in November.

England vs Germany preview

When England plays Germany at Wembley on Monday night in the UEFA Nations League, they will be looking to win their penultimate game before the World Cup.

Following their underwhelming performance in the Nations League, there has been a lot of hostility surrounding the England squad, and Gareth Southgate is aware that another loss will worsen morale.

In their most recent home game, England were destroyed 4-0 by Hungary, so Southgate’s first aim will be to prevent another embarrassing loss for his team.

Germany, meanwhile, have fared a little better in the group, although a win could yet see them end up in a respectable second, depending on what happens in the other match between Hungary and Italy.
